CASCAR Pioneer Kelly Williams to Serve As Keynote Speaker
at “Girl Power
Success” Workshop
Set for Tuesday, November 8, 2005
November 3, 2005 . . . 300 young women from local schools
will converge on the Victorian Inn on the Park on
November 8 for a one-day workshop called “Girl Power Success” – GPS.
CASCAR woman pioneer Kelly Williams will share her story with the participants
at the GPS workshop in a speech
called “The Seven Engines to the Winner’s Circle.” After
earning her teaching degree, Kelly decided to try racecar
driving and has enjoyed a successful career as a stockcar racer. In 1994,
Kelly became the first female driver to capture a
win in the 14-year history of CASCAR racing that year. Most recently, Kelly
has branched into television becoming
the host of Mechanical Chicks, which airs on Global and a panellist on Canada’s
Worst Driver, a new series for the
Discovery Channel.
“Kelly’s story is an inspirational one, and will set the tone for the entire workshop,” explained GPS founder Cathy Anstett. “Together with the organizing committee, we’ve organized a motivational day of presentations, performances and workshops addressing topics such as nutrition, fitness, image, relationships and career preparation. Presenters include publishing professional Jennifer Crake, Stratford Festival artist Ed Daranyi, educator Andrea Jackson, broadcaster Melissa Schenk, actor, director, teacher and stage manager Kennedy MacKinnon, puppeteer Yolanda Yott, fitness instructor and personal trainer Sue Rolph and Body Moves owner Joan Maloney.”
100 women mentors from the community will join the young women for lunch. “We’ve designed a creative way to encourage the young women to connect with the mentors,” said Ms. Anstett. “The mentors come from a variety of different backgrounds, with lots of wonderful experience and enthusiasm to share with our young women.”
A volunteer committee of local women has organized the GPS workshop in partnership with the Foundation for Enriching Education. The title sponsors are Credit Risk Management and Royal Bank.
“Our local sponsors have been incredibly generous,” continued Ms. Anstett. “Their generosity has allowed us to put together a rich and diverse day of events. I’m particularly pleased that we’ve been able to assemble a wonderful gift bag, which will be presented to each young woman at the end of the workshop.”
