Since the Bursary will not be active until the first GPS participants graduate from secondary school in 2009, the GPS committee wanted to put some support in place to assist students in the meantime. Dream Support is in the form of both financial and other forms of support for students who are investing themselves in exploring their dreams and require financial or other assistance. An annual budget of $500 to $800 would be ideal, but may not be utilized fully each year, depending on applications. Some examples of ideas that might be appropriate:
- A student dreams of being an engineer and requires equipment to secure a summer job in that field while she attends high school, but can’t afford the equipment.
- a student who wants to be an actor is pursuing a role at a summer theatre but can’t afford the gas to get there as often as required can apply for financial assistance.
- A student finds a leadership camp that will assist them with skills to move them toward their dream but cannot afford the camp fees.
- A student has a dream to be a veterinarian and wants to job shadow a mentor in that category and would like GPS to facilitate the contact.
In all of these cases, and many others, the student can complete
the application and submit it to the GPS Committee for consideration. The
annual deadline for consideration would be May 1st for assistance that summer.

The GPS event has created two new funds under the Foundation For Education Perth Huron: the GPS Dream Fund and the GPS Bursary Fund. These funds will assist young women who participated in a GPS event to receive support in investigating career paths or apply for a bursary to further their post-secondary education. If you would like to donate towards these funds download the Dream Support Donor form.
