COMMENTS FROM THE STUDENTS:

TRULY INCREDIBLE LADIES. What an unbelievable high I am still on yet today! The very fact that the organizers, mentors, volunteers and students are all saying and feeling the same thing...Girl Power Success was a complete SUCCESS!

Girl Power Success was incredible! Thanks to all of you for making it happen and demonstrating to the girls who attended that Girl Power is just the start and Woman Power is what they can strive for! Talk about role models... you are awesome. It was a real privilege to work with you and be a part of today. Thanks!

One of the best workshops I’ve attended. So well organized and professionally done. Hats off to the committee. You are all an inspiration! How lucky all the young ladies who attended today are!

Please, please, please run this workshop every year.

LETTER TO THE BEACON HERALD OCTOBER 2005

About one hundred Grade 9 girls from Stratford Central Secondary School had a tremendous opportunity to participate in the Girl Power Success Event held at The Victorian Inn on Tuesday, November 8. The girls thought the day was terrific and were thrilled to have been amongst about two hundred other Grade 9 students from Stratford and area high schools.

The goal for this one day workshop was to encourage these girls to understand their own potential and empower them to make good choices. They were motivated by presenters, performers and workshops that addressed issues such as fitness, body image, relationships, self esteem, personal goals and career preparation. At lunch they were treated to a wonderful buffet while  they mingled with over 100 terrific female mentors representing various careers across Stratford and surrounding areas.

We are very grateful to Cathy Anstett of Catherine Wright Designs and her 12 member Girl Power Success Committee for planning this inspiring day. We also thank the mentors who helped make this day a success, and for Carolyn Drummond and the hospitality of The Victorian Inn. Finally, a very sincere thank you to the Foundation for Enriching Education Perth Huron, Credit Risk Management, RBC Financial Group and dozens of other organizations, businesses and sponsors who made this day possible.

A few of our Grade 9 Health and Physical Education students at Stratford Central wanted us to include of few of their thoughts on the day:

“The atmosphere was great; everyone was kind, all the girls were treated like one big family and it was a pleasure to know that someone cares and understands what we are experiencing.”

“After going to GPS, I had a better understanding about self image. I believe that every grade nine girl that walked out of that room had a more positive image about herself.”

“Overall, GPS made me feel really good about myself and helped me to overcome fears that I had for the future. It helped me realize who I am and that I am not alone.”

“Positive self image is being proud of who you are, not pointing out tiny details that nobody cares about. Everybody has flaws, if we didn't we would all be the same and the world would be boring. Nobody would be unique or original. If you can't love yourself, flaws and all, then how can you expect someone else to be able to love you?”

“GPS was good for all the girls. It was great going with all your friends, where there were no males, and you could laugh and talk and relax. All your stresses were put on hold for a day.”

“It really gave me a boost to interact with someone (a mentor) with whom I had something in common. With this new advice, and new perception of success, I look at myself and others differently. I can say I believe in myself and others and see a whole new collection of opportunities.”

“We thank all of you very much for all your efforts in making this a spectacular and memorable day for our students.”
